The castle overlooks the River Ness running throughthe city of Inverness. It is a red sand stone structure and was built in 1836 by architect William Burn on the site of an 11th century defensive structure. The castle used to be the site of the Sheriff Court but reopened as aThe Inverness Castle Experience in late 2025.
