200th Anniversary of the Union & Caledonian Canal

We’re gearing up for a big year of celebrations as 2022 marks the 200th anniversaries of the Union and Caledonian canals opening.

Once the transport arteries that stoked the fires of the industrial revolution, today Scotland’s canals are home to cyclists and social enterprises rather than coal scows and Clydesdale horses. Passing through some of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes and the bustling cities of Edinburgh and Inverness, our 200-year-old waterways continue to contribute to Scotland’s rich heritage whilst providing corridors of opportunity for the future.

Scottish Canals will be updating their website with more information on our 200th anniversary plans as they unfold so please check it regularly and follow us @ScottishCanals for all the latest news.

Caley Cruisers have been offering boating holidays on Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal since 1970 and we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2020! Weekly or short break charter is available from April to October inclusive. No previous boating experience necessary as full training given. Cruising 60 miles of Europes most beautiful inland waterways will be one of the most memorable experiences you will ever have. So if you are looking for the perfect boating holiday in Scotland, or Caledonian Canal boat hire look no further.
