Foyers
The small village of Foyers is situated on the quieter eastern shore of Loch Ness. The village is approximately 1 mile from the pier through pretty woodland on a steep path/narrow road.
Foyers is also the location of an SSE hydro power station situated within the old power house of the Aluminium smelter at Foyers. Electricity has been generated in the area since 1896 when power was needed to supply an aluminium smelter, which was shut down in 1967. Today it is
part of the Great Glen hydro scheme operated by Scottish and Southern Energy.
B E R T H I N G A T F O Y E R S - Important Information
Due to the pier being exposed to the weather, no overnight mooring is permitted at Foyers. Please request permission to berth from the boat yard prior to accessing Foyers pier, as adverse weather conditions or forecast may prevent hire cruisers from mooring here.
Once permission from the boatyard has been given, you must then contact the owners of the pier, Foyers Pier Ltd, on the phone number stated in your boating guide book, in order to gain authorisation to berth, as space is limited. Please note: there is a berthing fee applicable for Foyers pier and you will be advised on this when contacting Foyers Pier Ltd.
Berthing should not exceed 2 hrs and please keep monitoring the weather whilst ashore. Ensure the fenders are put in place. Care must be taken when approaching the pier. If you’re approaching from the south, please take a wide berth around the large green marker buoy near the river mouth, as the area is very shallow. Do not pass between the green buoy and the shores.
