Loch Lochy

Loch Lochy is a large freshwater loch in the Lochaber district. With a mean depth of 70 meters, it is the third deepest loch of Scotland. It is an extremely picturesque area with high mountains and is traditionally known as a good area for fishing for wild Brown Trout!

Lizzie, a three-humped, plesiosaur-like creature akin to the Loch Ness monster, is reputed to live in the waters of Lochy.

At Loch Lochy's north-eastern end, near Laggan the canal passes the site of a clan battle: the Macdonalds, MacDonnells and Camerons against the Frasers and a small number of Grants. This Battle is known as the Battle of the Shirts and took place in the summer of 1544.
