Invergarry

Invergarry is an old picturesque little village with vast history located just off Loch Oich. From Invergarry there are plenty of options for the walkers amongst you with some beautiful woodland tracks and the canal towpath to explore.

The mooring for accessing Invergarry is located just beside the Invergarry Castle ruins (please note that no dogs are allowed ashore here by request of the hotel) where it is approximately a 15-20 minute walk into the village. There is also additional mooring located in front of The Well of the Seven Heads, allowing easy access for the general store.

Sights

Invergarry Castle - The ruins of Invergarry Castle, once the seat of the powerful MacDonnell Chiefs of Glengarry, stands on Creagan an Fhitich (The Raven's Rock) in the grounds of Glengarry Castle Hotel, overlooking Loch Oich. It was burned down after the Jacobite Risings in 1715 and again in 1745. Before and after the Battle of Culloden it gave shelter to Prince Charles Edward, better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Well of the Seven Heads – This well has some story to tell. It was erected in 1812 by the Glengarry chief. The heads of the seven murderers of the family of Keppoch were washed in the well before being presented to the Clan chief at Invergarry Castle in 1665.

Glengarry Heritage Centre – This heritage centre is located within the Glengarry Community Centre approximately 1 mile from Invergarry on the main A87 road. It gives a good insight into the rich local history of the Glengarry area. Admission is free. Opening times do vary so calling in advance would be advisable.
